Concerning Apostolic Doctrine
After hearing the tape a few weeks ago from the California theologian ,I thought I would write some thoughts for those who are interested .The message from the tape and its varying degrees of reception , illustrates some things I've tried to communicate in the past . The point of this letter though , isn't to dwell on the content of the tape. As you probably can guess my thoughts are , I believe it presented a different Jesus . Briefly ,some of the reasons are as follows
His references to and quotes from the Gospel of Thomas ,Mary Magdallens ,Gospel of Philip. His denial of certain miracles. His branch of liberal "theology" that denies various parts of the 4 Biblical gospels , while at the same time he quotes " Jesus" from the gnostic sources . He is referring someone, (I don't know who ) but it 's not the Jesus the Apostles and Prophets spoke of or wrote about .
The Enemy rarely gets people into error by denouncing Jesus outright . It has been by subtly bringing in another Jesus , so as to deceive. One can then think in their heart " I'm following Jesus " , but its a false Christ . Also, their views can't be corrected, because they've nullified the true standard of comparison ,the view which came through the Apostles ( The authentic "Biblos" record- Luke 1 ) As was said before ". Many views of Jesus fit comfortably into that wide open category ,... a view of Jesus independent and apart from the Scripture " and the Apostles.
What is going to be the basis or your view or definition of Jesus ?
The Apostles warned of those speaking of a " different Jesus... other than the one we preached " (Gal 1:6). The apostle Paul admonishes "to follow the pattern of sound words (teaching )that you heard from me ". (1 Tim 1.13 ) It is written that they (the church) "devoted themselves to the Apostles teaching (doctrine )"(Acts 2.42)
Jesus says in his letter to the church "Blessed are those who hear and take to heart what is written ...(Rev .1-3,11,19)
